Glint — Privacy Policy

Glint is a Bluetooth finder for iPhone that helps you locate lost earbuds and headphones — JBL, Sony, Samsung Galaxy Buds, Bose, Anker, Jabra, and any Bluetooth device — by guiding you closer with a warmer/colder reading. This policy explains, in plain language, what Glint does and does not do with your data. The short version: Glint listens for Bluetooth signals on your device, everything stays on your phone, and Glint requires no account.

Glint works entirely on your device

When you use Glint, your iPhone listens for the Bluetooth signal broadcast by nearby devices and measures how strong that signal is. Glint turns that signal strength into the warmer/colder reading that guides you to your earbuds. This means:

Glint scans for nearby Bluetooth devices on your device only. It reads the signal strength (RSSI) to tell you if you are getting closer.
No Bluetooth data ever leaves your phone. Glint has no server that receives what devices are near you, the signal readings, or which devices you search for. There is no backend at all.
The devices you save and your app preferences are stored on your device only.

Glint has no account system, no backend, and no advertising SDK. It does not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA), does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission, and does not track you across apps or websites.

Bluetooth permission

iOS will ask Glint for permission to use Bluetooth. This permission is the heart of how Glint works, so we want to be completely clear about it:

Glint uses Bluetooth solely to sense the signal from your lost earbuds and headphones — listening for nearby devices so it can guide you closer with a warmer/colder reading.
It is not used to connect to, catalog, or report the devices around you to us or anyone else. There is no server receiving this information.
If you deny or later revoke this permission (in iOS Settings › Glint › Bluetooth), Glint cannot sense your earbuds, but no other data is affected.

Optional location — "last seen"

Glint has an optional last-seen feature (part of Glint Plus) that remembers the approximate spot where a saved device was last detected, so you know which room or which part of town to start in.

This feature is off unless you turn it on. If you never enable it, Glint never asks for or uses your location.
If you enable it, Glint uses a coarse location reading and stores the last-seen coordinate on your device only. It is never uploaded anywhere.
You can revoke location access any time in iOS Settings › Glint › Location, or turn the feature off in the app. Your saved last-seen points stay on your device until you remove them or delete the app.

Analytics

Glint uses only Apple's on-device logging (os_log) to record anonymous, aggregate feature-usage events so we can understand which parts of the app are used and improve it.

No third-party analytics SDK. There is no Firebase Analytics, no Amplitude, no Mixpanel — nothing that ships your behavior off the device to an analytics company.
No personal information. These logs contain only enumerated event names and coarse, non-identifying values. They never include your name, email, location, which devices are near you, or your Bluetooth readings.
No advertising identifier (IDFA), no ad personalization, and no cross-app or cross-website tracking. We never sell your data.

Purchases (Glint Plus)

Glint offers optional Glint Plus purchases (subscriptions and a one-time lifetime unlock). Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. To manage entitlements and restore purchases, Glint uses RevenueCat, a third-party purchase-infrastructure provider.

RevenueCat receives your purchase history and a randomly generated, anonymous app-user identifier (the install ID from your device Keychain). Glint does not provide RevenueCat with your name, email, Apple ID, or any other identity information.
Apple processes the payment itself; Glint never sees your payment details.
RevenueCat's handling of this data is governed by RevenueCat's own privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy

This purchase data is used only to determine whether you have an active Glint Plus entitlement and to let you restore purchases on your devices. It is not used for advertising or tracking.

Data we do not collect

Glint does not collect: your name, email address, phone number, contacts, an inventory of nearby devices, your Bluetooth signal readings, your precise location, browsing or search history, health data, or any advertising/tracking identifiers.

Children

Glint is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

Permissions

Bluetooth: required so Glint can sense the signal from your lost earbuds. Used only for that. You can revoke it any time in iOS Settings › Glint › Bluetooth. If it is off, Glint cannot find your devices.
Location (optional): only used if you enable the last-seen feature, and only stored on your device. Off by default. Revoke any time in iOS Settings › Glint › Location.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date.
